Take a Look at . . . KINDERGARTEN

Annie Sucheki

Well, they started! Your children are now writing the "Question of the Day." The question of the day has become both a tradition and important classroom ritual. Each morning as they arrive, children eagerly sign in. Sometimes the question can be answered yes or no. Sometimes there is a choice between two options. Always it is an invaluable tool to generate conversations, help us with learning assessments, or simply to find out something new about the children in our class.

This week children have begun to author the question themselves. We are certain they will come up with far better questions than their teachers. Already they are asking "Do you like it here?" and "Would you rather sleep in a sleeping bag?" and "Do you like pottery?" All using invented spelling (Do you lik padre?). Stop in some morning if you would like to see who has a dog, who rides the bus to school, who would like to put on a play. The kindergarten has all the data collected in our "Question of the Day."
