2010 Summer Camp Staff

Now I would like to introduce you to the staff, an outstanding group of multi-talented people dedicated to children. (Please note that assignments may change based on enrollment.)

Camp Administrators

This is Mary Kay Miluski’s 15th year directing camp, and she was a member of the school’s administrative team for ten years.  Before SRV, she was a civil litigator for 12 years.  Mary Kay grew up in Wallingford and went to Nether Providence High School.  She is a graduate of Brown University and Boston University School of Law.  Her son, Alex, went to SRV, graduated from Strath Haven High School, and is living and working in St. Augustine, FL.  In her  spare time she volunteers at the local SPCA, and enjoys swimming, reading, walking her too-many dogs, dancing, and gardening.  Jen Hollowell, and Karin Jackubowski return as our program directors.  This will be Jen’s tenth summer; she is a certified elementary teacher and school counselor.  She graduated from the Catholic University of America and Villanova University’s Masters’ Program in counseling and human relations.  Jen worked as a school counselor for years before starting her family.  She lives in Narberth with her husband, Paul, and two sons, Drew and Jack, who will both be campers here this summer.  Jen is returning to work full-time at camp.  In her ‘free’ time, she enjoys traveling, gardening and cooking. Karin is an Instructional Support Team Facilitator in two elementary schools in the Red Clay School District in Delaware. She lives with her husband, Peter, in Bear, Delaware.  She is a certified elementary teacher, and has taught classes in grades 1-4. She received her Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Rosemont College in 2005.  Karin is also working on her doctorate in Educational Leadership at Wilmington University. This is Karin’s sixth year with us.  She loves spending time with children, is energetic and lively.  She enjoys reading, doing crafts, playing sports and biking with friends. 

Camp Counselors

Preschool – Dan Peters, Shay Dickson, Emma Morrison and Michelle Schapire will be with the preschoolers.  Dan is back for his 8th year! He is an amazing young man who has his Music Ed degree from Temple and has been substitute teaching at SE Delco School district. Shay has just graduated from U Penn with a BA in Health and Sciences and Biology.  She will be attending a BSN/MSN program in the fall to become an advance practice pediatric nurse.  Shay ran cross country and track at Penn and is training for a marathon.  Emma will graduate from West Chester U next December with a degree in Elementary and Early Education.  She enjoys reading and going to the beach.  This will be Shay and Emma’s 7th year as staff members.  Michelle has just graduated from Penncrest and will attend George Washington U in the fall; this is her 4th year on the staff.  

5 & 6’s – Georgia Catania, Roy-Al Edwards, Greg Eiseman, Allyson Blonski, Kristen Leonard, Emily Miluski, Molly Walsh, Sierra Adams, David Zell, Sophie Miluski and Kalev Rudolf will be working with the 5 & 6 year old campers.  Georgia is a rising senior at Dickinson returning from a year abroad in Bologna Italy; she is an Italian Studies major with an English minor.  She went to SRV for 9 years and this will be her 6th year working at camp.  Roy-Al is a rising senior at Indiana U of PA where he’s majoring in Physical Ed and playing football; this will be his 8th year on the staff.  Greg is a rising junior at Pitt; he was an SRV camper and CIT and this will be his 6th year on the staff.  Allyson is majoring in Elementary Ed at Kings College where she’ll be a junior.  She’s been a counselor at NPE day camp and an assistant at SRS.  Ally plays intramural football and likes to watch the Phillies and play softball. Kristen is a rising sophomore at Vanderbuilt where she’s studying Elementary Ed; this will be her second summer on the staff.  Emily will be attending Virginia Tech where she’ll study engineering in the fall. She ran track in high school and has been at SRV Camp since she was 6!  Molly will be going to Gettysburg College where she’ll major in Political Science.  She’s a former camper and CIT and this will be her 4th summer on the staff. Sierra will attend Connecticut College where she’ll study Psychology, Behavior Neuroscience and Women’s Rights.  She’s danced since she was 4, is captain of Strath Haven’s dance line, is in the symphonic band, wind ensemble, orchestra, photography club and works on the yearbook.  Sierra also volunteers with the Chester Team Ministries.  David sings in his high school choir and plays saxophone in the marching and concert bands; this will be his second year on the staff.  Sophie and Kalev are former campers and CITS.  Sophie is a member of the chorus and bandfront. Kalev has been acting professionally for years and takes classes in Philadelphia. 

Specialties – We are lucky to again have SRV teacher, Mike Nowell, as our Woodshop Specialist. Mike has taught children woodshop at school for more than 25 years (as well as sports and computers).  Your children will have a wonderful time in the shop with Mike! Jonathan Colvson, Morris Lowitz-Coia and Fen Tamulonis will be working with your children in the shop also.  Jonathan is a rising junior at Haverford College where he’s majoring in music.  He plays the bass guitar and piano and this will be his 10th summer here and his 6th on the staff.  Morris just graduated from Delaware Valley Friends and he’ll be studying engineering in the fall. Morris pays guitar and lacrosse; he’s a former camper and this will be his 4th year on the staff.  Fen is a rising senior at Strath Haven where he’s an honor student, a member of the JV swim team, the fencing and robotics clubs, the marching and symphonic bands, chorus and select chorus.  He’s a former camper and CIT and this will be his 2nd year on the staff. 

Sarah Boland and Julia Sippel will be our Art Specialists. Sarah is a former SRV student and a rising sophomore at the Tyler School of Art where her favorite subjects are pottery and sculpture.  She has worked at the Creative Living Room and at Springdale Farm, and has volunteered with Quest Therapeutic Services; she enjoys horseback riding. Julia is studying art at Bennington College.  She recently spent few months as an art assistant at an elementary school in NC.  She worked at a day camp in Sante Fe and enjoys swimming, art and the outdoors.  They will be assisted by Will Stephenson, a rising senior at Strath Haven where he plays the violin in the orchestra and is on the Science Olympiad team.  He also plays squash. Will’s a former camper and CIT; this will be his 3rd year on the staff.

Luke Nowell and Erin Shea will be our Sports and Games Specialists.  Luke is a rising senior at U of Pitt where he’s studying film.  He’s a former SRV student and this will be his 4th year on the staff.  Erin is studying physical therapy at the School of Nursing and Health Studies at the U of Miami where she’ll be a junior.  She is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and the varsity soccer team.  Erin has worked at a number of camps.

Julia Tessler will return as one of our Drama Specialists and will be joined by Brian Maher. Julia is a rising sophomore at Penn State where she’s studying Elementary Ed.  She loves singing, Penn State football and cooking.  This will be her fourth year on the staff and she’s a former camper and CIT.  Brian is a music ed/percussion major at Eastern U. He attended SRV and teaches private percussion lessons and works with high school and middle school marching bands.

Andrea Hoder returns as our Nature Specialist.   She teaches second grade in the Philadelphia School District and is working on her Masters degree in Elementary Ed.  She likes to play Frisbee and tennis and enjoys her dog and cats. She will be assisted by Erik Antczak, a rising junior in high school who is on the debate team and computer programming club.  He’s also a black belt in karate and former CIT. 

Elizabeth Lutzvitch will be back as our Dance and Gymnastics Specialist.  Liz is a rising sophomore at Arcadia U where she’s studying Art History; she has danced for more than 15 years, is a former camper and CIT and this will be her 5th year on the staff.  Liz will be joined by Alexandra Hille, a rising senior at Strath Haven and former SRV student.  Alex is a dance team leader and choreographs dance routines.  She’s president of the Graphic Drawing Group, a member of the Glee Club and choir, a diversity trainer and she enjoys travel and the outdoors.

Winston Johnson and Joe Baglia will lead Music activities.  Winston is currently job hunting for a Band teacher position in the Philadelphia area.  He has his music ed degree from Temple and he plays the drums and percussion.  This will be his second year at camp.  Joe will be going to college in the fall and plays the guitar and drums in a band and was caption of his drum line in high school.  This will be his fourth year on the staff and he’s a former camper and CIT. 

CITs – Alex Gittelman will again mentor and lead our CITs.  Alex is a Temple grad with a jazz music ed degree.  He’s been student teaching and playing with various ensembles on trumpet.  He is an amazing musician and will be a wonderful teacher.  He will be joined by Deirdre Abrahamsson who most recently worked at U of Penn in the Athletic Department.  Her background is in teaching and coaching.  She ran track at Penn and played Ultimate Frisbee for a decade.  Deirdre worked at the 2002 Winter Olympics, the 2006 European Track and Field Championships, the Women’s Sports Foundation and the City of New York Parks and Recreation.  Her two children will be joining us a camp.

Swimming – Our Lifeguards and Swimming Instructors will be lead by Liia Rudolph who is returning for her 9th year on the staff.  She will be writing her senior thesis at Scripps College in the fall, and most recently she’s been a nanny for the first child of two former staff members. Liia is a former SRV student, camper and CIT.  Nicholas Cresta will be joining us on the pool staff.  He is a 2009 graduate of Kutztown University and is working on his Masters of Ed in secondary and elementary counseling at West Chester U. while he works at Chester Community Charter School.  Nick played football in college, was a captain of the Strath Haven team, has played baseball and wrestled and been a personal trainer.  Libby Maguire, George Dickson, Maisy Huemmler and Gwyn Shumar, all Red Cross Certified Lifeguards, are returning to the pool staff.  Libby is a rising senior at U of Penn where she’s studying nursing and playing rugby. This will be her 4th year on the staff.  George will be a sophomore at Penn where he’s studying Math and Economics.  He runs cross country and track and likes to swim and enjoy nature.  This will be his 16th year at camp and his 5th year as a counselor. Maisy will be a sophomore at Skidmore College where she rides horses and swims for fun.  Gwyn will be going to college in the fall to study earth science, and she’s training to run the Broad Street Run.  This will be the fourth summer for Maisy and Gwyn on the staff.  Liz Semeraro joins the pool staff.  She will be a junior at Strath Haven where she plays the French Horn, field hockey and runs track.  Liz is a certified lifeguard and enjoys swimming.

General Counselors – Andy Martinek, a recent grad of Temple U with a degree in Jazz Music Education.  He has been a substitute teacher, worked with marching bands and taught music privately.  Andy studied abroad with the Amsterdam Conservancy with a full scholarship.  He enjoys snowboarding, swimming, kayaking, running and drumming.  Christina Pooler is a rising senior at St. Joe’s where she’s studying Sociology.  She’s taken a number of early childhood education classes and helped teach preschool while at Strath Haven.  Christina enjoys photography, horseback riding, and music; she plays the violin and bass.  Kelsey Morgan is majoring in Anthropology and Environmental Studies at Juniata College where she’s a member of the Environmental Coalition and Apiary Club.  Kelsey enjoys hiking, camping, swimming, biking and running.  Alison Storella returns for her 7th year on the staff.  She is a rising senior and Political science major at Vassar College.  She plays the trumpet in the Vassar Wind Ensemble, rides on the Equestrian Team and volunteers at local elementary schools with PEACE.  She’s also a former camper and CIT.  Katie Geiger will be back from the U of Delaware where she’s a Vocal Music Education Major.  She loves to sing and play baseball.  James Harris joins the staff; he’s studying Elementary Ed at DCCC where he also takes art classes.  He enjoys drawing, baseball, football and other outdoor activities. Andrew Laird will join the staff.  He’ll be attending the University of Colorado Business School in the fall.  He’s a senior pack leader and an Eagle Scout and plays the trumpet in the Strath Haven band.  He’s worked as a counselor at another camp for 4 years and enjoys playing Ultimate Frisbee.  Julianne Garrity is a rising senior at Marple Newtown High School and was a camper and a CIT at SRV for years.  She’s a member of honor roll and a leadership award nominee.  Julie enjoys baking, cooking, swimming, arts & crafts.

New Junior Counselors - Sivan Alouf, Dan Tamulonis, Jake Bessen and Zak Kayal are all rising high school sophomores and former campers and CITs.  Sivan is a member of the dance team. Dan played freshman basketball, JV cross country and lacrosse, helped coach basketball, and is a member of his class cabinet.  Jake enjoys singing and drama and helps younger children in choir.  Zak is on Honor Roll, plays the Alto Sax, is a boy scout, and a member of the tennis team and sign language club.
