Sports
By Elizabeth Pandosh, Science and Sports Teacher
Children fly through the doors of Grace ready to go! "What game are we playing today?" they ask. The answer goes one of two ways: either I have chosen a game or it is "their choice" and they choose from a list of games. This year, Kindergarten has really enjoyed learning new games like Clean up the Yard, Ghost in the Graveyard, rock climbing and an old favorite, Duck, Duck, Goose. Some of Primary Circle's favorite games are Dr. Spy, Baby in the Air and Run the Bases. Main Circle children enjoy playing Dr. Spy, Sumo wrestling and All Campus Capture the Flag.

Playing Ghost in the Graveyard
Through playing all of these wonderful games students are granted the opportunity to explore new games, have fun and build athletic and group skills they can use throughout the rest of their lives. After a game we often sit and reflect on how the game went. Students are given an opportunity to support one another and reflect on each other's views and concerns. If the children start with a negative I almost always stop them and ask them to start with something positive. This way they don't leave only focusing on the negative. Here are examples of those reflections:
"My favorite part was getting sweaty!"
"I liked how X took a risk and got the goal."
"I felt like I was being picked on because everyone was shouting, 'Get the Doctor!'"
Students show compassion, understanding, and the ability to share their thoughts and express their concerns. Through this wonderful outlet they are able to grow and become conscientious team players.
