Our Sustainability Practices

1. Healthy Soil – Healthy soil is the foundation of a thriving landscape. We enrich and protect our soil through composting, mulching, thoughtful stormwater management, and practices that minimize unnecessary disturbance.
2. Water Conservation – We work to use water responsibly through efficient irrigation, rainwater collection, native and drought-tolerant plantings, and landscape design that naturally reduces runoff and improves water absorption.
3. Clean Water and Air – Our campus is managed with practices that help protect water and air quality. We minimize pollutants, favor natural approaches to erosion control, and select materials and maintenance practices that reduce environmental impact.
4. Wildlife Habitat – Our campus provides habitat for birds, pollinators, insects, and other wildlife. We preserve mature trees, plant native species, encourage biodiversity, and create landscapes that support healthy ecosystems.
5. Energy Conservation – We seek opportunities to reduce energy use through thoughtful campus planning, efficient equipment, durable materials, and maintenance practices that reduce unnecessary resource consumption.
6. Healthy Landscapes – We prioritize plants that are well suited to our region and naturally resilient. By selecting the right plants for the right places, we create beautiful landscapes that require fewer resources while supporting local ecosystems.
7. Sustainable Materials – Whenever possible, we choose renewable, recycled, locally sourced, and responsibly produced materials. We also look for opportunities to reuse existing resources, compost organic materials, and reduce waste throughout campus.
8. Human Health and Well-Being – Every sustainability decision is made with the health of our students, faculty, staff, and community in mind.

Sustainability in Action: Sustainability is woven into the student experience. Children care for gardens, harvest vegetables, observe seasonal changes, study local habitats, and participate in projects that deepen their understanding of environmental stewardship. These experiences encourage students to ask questions, solve problems, and recognize the connections between people and the natural world. Rather than learning about sustainability only in theory, they experience it as part of daily life.

Looking Ahead: Sustainability is an ongoing commitment. As our campus evolves, we continue to seek thoughtful ways to reduce our environmental impact while strengthening the learning environment for our students.
