At The School in Rose Valley, our Preschool program is built on the understanding that young children learn best when they are deeply engaged in meaningful work. Our teachers begin with children’s natural curiosity and thoughtfully design experiences that foster academic, social, emotional, and physical growth.
Each day unfolds through children’s ideas and imagination. A classroom post office grows into a campus-wide mail system as children write letters, recognize names, read signs, and deliver mail to friends across the school. A wondering about where everyday items like food and clothing come from inspires children to open a store, where they explore how goods are produced, traded, and exchanged while counting, sorting, comparing, and solving problems together. A desire to create their own stuffed animals evolves into a sewing project, strengthening fine motor skills while introducing planning, measurement, and perseverance. Guided by teachers who listen closely and build on children’s interests, learning at SRV is joyful, purposeful, and deeply connected to the world around them.
Children leave Preschool with growing confidence, independence, and a strong academic and social-emotional foundation that continues to deepen as they move through the elementary years at SRV.
Our emergent, play-based curriculum is both responsive and intentional. Teachers observe closely, listen deeply, and build upon the questions, discoveries, and experiences that arise naturally in children’s daily lives while thoughtfully introducing new materials, ideas, and opportunities that spark curiosity and extend children’s thinking. Together, children’s interests and teachers’ intentional guidance shape rich investigations that invite exploration, collaboration, and problem solving.
Rather than teaching skills in isolation, teachers weave early literacy, mathematical thinking, scientific inquiry, and social-emotional learning throughout these investigations. As children create maps of the campus, document the growth of plants in the garden, compare, sort, and graph their discoveries, or dictate stories and make their own books, they develop foundational skills because those skills become essential tools for exploring and making sense of the world around them.
Specialist teachers in Woodshop, Music, Art, Science, and Theater work in partnership with classroom teachers, enriching children’s investigations with new materials, perspectives, and creative ways to express their ideas. This collaborative, integrated approach ensures that learning is engaging, purposeful, and responsive to the whole child.
Preschool Curriculum
To be eligible for our Preschool program, children must be at least 2 years, 7 months old prior to the first day of the school year, and be able to use the bathroom and attend to hygiene needs independently.
Full Day (includes lunch): 8:15 AM – 3:00 PM, with early drop-off available as early as 7:30 AM. Our SRV After 3 Program extends care until 6:00 PM.
Half Day (does not include lunch): 8:15 AM – 11:45 AM, perfect for families seeking a shorter school day while still offering a rich and immersive educational experience.
We offer flexible enrollment options to accommodate different family needs:
Farm-to-Fork Food Program: Children in our Full Day program enjoy nutritious lunches prepared on-site using fresh produce from our organic garden and local farms. They help tend the garden, care for our resident hens, collect fresh eggs, and experience firsthand how food is grown, harvested, and prepared. Through these daily experiences, children develop an understanding of agronomic sustainability, environmental stewardship, and the interconnectedness of the natural world. Learn more here.
