Welcome to Their Happy Place.

Nestled on nine and a half wooded acres, The School in Rose Valley’s preschool through sixth-grade program has been propelled by students’ natural enthusiasm for learning and play since 1929. At SRV, we believe that all children deserve a school they love.

Learning Outside the Lines

The School in Rose Valley is a progressive school for children in preschool through sixth grade. In our classrooms and on our wooded campus, teachers and students create experiences that spark curiosity, encourage active exploration, strengthen initiative, and stimulate questions. We guide children to know themselves, to delight in learning, and to understand their opportunities and responsibilities in our community and the world.

At The School in Rose Valley, we know that the most substantive learning occurs when children are actively engaged in hands-on, contextual experiences. Our intentional and integrated curriculum, guided by our progressive pedagogy, weaves together intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development. Here, children are nurtured and guided as they discover how to think critically, learn joyfully, and lead confidently.

OUR COMMITMENT TO PROGRESSIVE EDUCATION

Progressive schools are the legacy of a long and proud tradition of thoughtful school practice stretching back centuries.

The foundations of progressive education date back to The Enlightenment, and progressive pedagogy crystallized into a movement in the early 20th century. Educators then experimented with the concepts espoused by John Dewey, Maria Montessori, and Rudolph Steiner, among others, in their schools. As our understanding of how children learn best has evolved, we have come to know that a progressive curriculum is highly beneficial and effective for intellectual, emotional, and social development, especially during the foundational, elementary years. Our progressive approach fosters critical thinking, creativity, and social responsibility, preparing students to thrive in a rapidly changing world while cultivating a love for learning.

Testimonial

The School in Rose Valley (SRV) has been a truly exceptional place for our three children. When we enrolled our now high schooler in SRV's preschool, I knew little about progressive education. But it didn’t take long to see the comprehensive benefits of SRV’s approach. This school nurtures the mind, body, heart, and soul, providing a well-rounded foundation for every child. I’m incredibly grateful that we discovered SRV when we moved here from the city!
