Jane Schmucki

Jane attended The School in Rose Valley from Preschool through Sixth Grade and returned to the community in 2026 as a Preschool Assistant Teacher. She is an educator with a passion for child-centered, play-based learning and social-emotional development. Jane earned a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies with a minor in Education Studies from Skidmore College, where she co-founded Allies in Learning and Teaching (ALT), a student-led program that applied critical pedagogy to reimagine power, collaboration, and student voice in the classroom. Her experience working with children spans early childhood through adolescence. She has held teaching and mentoring roles at Germantown Friends School, Skidmore’s Early Childhood Center, and Skidmore’s Outdoor Orientation Program, where she led wilderness backpacking trips for incoming first-year students. She also spent multiple summers on the staff at The Farm School, guiding young people through farm work, land-based learning, and social-emotional growth. Jane brings a thoughtful, relationship-centered approach to teaching, grounded in conflict mediation, emotional regulation, and a deep commitment to helping every child feel heard, valued, and empowered.
