Susan has deep roots in the SRV community. Her great-grandfather, “Mister,” was the first shop teacher. Later, her grandmother Margaret Rawson taught at the school and wrote books about the work she did with dyslexic boys there. Her father Ken and uncle Ed also went to SRV. Susan attended SRV from the first preschool class to 6th grade, as did her brothers David and Stephen. SRV was her favorite educational experience, with its focus on outdoor learning, creative opportunities to learn important skills (like using math to make cookies!), and the amazing community of kids and families. A highlight of her memories is May Fair, all the dancing, and tumbling with Whit Burress.
Susan raised her kids in Marin County, California, and it hurt her not to be able to share the school with her own children. She is passionate about keeping SRV strong for the future and also serves on the Advancement Committee.
Susan lives with her partner (and cat) in Lansdowne and works in development for Bryn Mawr Film Institute.
