2022-2023 at SRV: A Year of Growth, Community, and Lasting Impact

Reflecting on a Year of Growth and Community at SRV: 2022-2023 Annual Report

At The School in Rose Valley, the 2022-2023 academic year was marked by growth, community involvement, and memorable experiences. With a foundation built on progressive education, SRV continues to flourish thanks to the generous support of our donors, dedicated staff, and engaged families. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights and milestones that defined the year.

A Message from Our Head of School

The school, approaching its own 100th anniversary, remains committed to preserving these roots while embracing modern challenges and expanding connections. A notable project this year was the construction of a Mongolian Ger, providing both a new library space and a unique learning opportunity about nomadic culture. Stanton expressed gratitude for the generosity that has allowed SRV to expand its facilities and enhance student experiences.

The SRV Fund: Community Contributions at Work

The SRV Fund is crucial to sustaining our programs, from classroom resources to facility improvements. During the 2022-2023 school year, SRV received support from various donor circles:

This year, contributions helped fund exciting initiatives, including expanded theater programming, garden projects, and professional development for faculty at the NAIS People of Color Conference.

Celebrating Volunteerism and Community Engagement

SRV thrives on the involvement of its community. Volunteers play a vital role, from organizing beloved traditions like Apple Day to supporting classroom projects and events like the Winter Festival. SRV recognized its incredible volunteers, including those who participated in the Book Swap, Candle-Making Week, and May Fair, as well as committee members who contributed to strategic planning and alumni events.

Our valued partnerships with local institutions, including the Hedgerow Theater and the Rose Valley Museum, enhanced student experiences this year. Students enjoyed a special performance at Hedgerow and Kindergarteners explored local history on a field trip to the Rose Valley Museum.

Give & Groove: A Celebration of Art, Music, and Community

In May, SRV hosted the annual Give & Groove event, a festive gathering under the blooming Yellowwood tree. The event featured live music from the Bickel Brothers, art auctions showcasing student creations, and delicious dining experiences shared among friends, old and new. Thanks to generous sponsors, including Fiddle and Cello-level supporters, Give & Groove was a success, helping to fund various school initiatives.

Honoring Leadership and Legacy

Each spring, SRV hosts a Leadership and Orchard Society Brunch to honor significant donors and those who have included the school in their estate plans through The Orchard Society. This year’s event was particularly special as John and Eileen Baker were awarded the In Partnership Award for their longtime dedication to SRV.

The Pennsylvania Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program allows taxpayers to direct their state taxes to SRV, providing essential funds for scholarships and financial aid. This year, generous EITC donors significantly contributed to making an SRV education accessible to more families. SRV aims to increase participation in this impactful program, and interested individuals are encouraged to reach out to Director of Development & Alumni Relations, Carrie Miluski, for more information.

Looking Ahead: SRV’s Commitment to a Bright Future

The 2022-2023 year underscored the power of community and the importance of giving back. As SRV approaches its 100th anniversary, the school remains dedicated to its mission of providing progressive, experiential education in an environment that fosters creativity, curiosity, and connection. With continued support from our donors, volunteers, and partners, SRV looks forward to a future filled with opportunity and growth.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to SRV’s success this year. Your generosity and involvement allow us to provide exceptional educational experiences, helping our students grow into compassionate, engaged citizens. We look forward to another remarkable year ahead!
